Tomochichi was very important in helping for the founding of Georgia. He was a chief of the Yamacraw Indians, a tribe created in 1728 with the members of the creek and Yamasee Indians. James Oglethorpe met Tomochichi, and they became friends. Since they were friends, Tomochichi allowed Oglethorpe to settle on Savannah (Yamacraw Bluff). These two had a long lasting and close relationship. They went on many journeys together, and with the help of their translator, they attempted to create English speaking schools for Native Americans.
